Melissa McCarty is a multi-talented television host, national crime correspondent, and author known for her excellent ad-lib and live broadcast skills. She’s been broadcasting live for fifteen years. She's recently released her Memoir, The Making of a Crime Reporter, which tells her incredible story. During our conversation, Melissa talks about her career, the inspiration for the book, her relationship with her brother (pictured in the book cover) and his struggles with mental illness. She very openly talks about her own life challenges growing up, the environment she was in, and how she worked very hard to built a career for herself in journalism, TV, and crime reporting. She grew up in a crime-infested neighborhood, dropped out of high school, and went on to become a journalist. She also reveals that her brother Mikey turned to gangs and crime while suffering from addiction and mental health issues.
